First Buddy Beatdown Event Lauded a Success as it Raises R48 000 for Kayla

Tuesday night saw comedians, Siv Ngesi and Brendan Murray step into the ring at Cape Town MMA gym, Pride Fighting Academy (PFA) with limited knowledge of boxing to settle a personal vendetta. All proceeds went to four month old Cystic Fibrosis baby, Kayla Glaser.

Baby Kayla’s parents have been trying to raise R150 000 in order to buy a Klapper vest for their daughter. The vest that would need to be imported from the U.S will help move mucus off Kayla’s lungs and add years to her life.

“Thank you so much for everything that you have done for us and for Kayla, we are so grateful and are in complete awe at how many good people there are in this world,” said Kayla’s mother, Kerry Glaser.

Various sponsored prizes were also auctioned off for charity.  One of which was a signed Springbok Sevens rugby jersey, by captain Kyle Brown, who was also in attendance. The jersey was auctioned off for R2750.00

THE MAIN FIGHT

Murray came into the fight with a 20kg advantage and minimal training while Ngesi was leaner and trained in some Muaythai and boxing. This experience showed with Ngesi dominating the fight. While Murray managed to score a big knockdown, the fight was called in the third round after Ngesi landed a few big shots that bloodied Murray’s nose badly.
The two comedians were in good spirits after the fight and proud to raise the funds for baby Kayla.

"This entire event was all for a special girl fighting for her life. Kayla is the real winner. She has a bigger heart than both Brendan and I combined and we are so happy that we could make a small difference to her life", said Ngesi.
